Applying for Tier 2 Visa (Work Permit)

Applying for Tier 2 Visa (Work Permit)

The process for international students from India to apply for a Tier 2 work visa in the United Kingdom is as follows:

  1. Find an employer: In order to apply for a Tier 2 visa, you must have a valid job offer from a UK employer who is willing to sponsor you. The employer must hold a valid Tier 2 Sponsorship Licence.
  2. Job offer: Once you have secured a job offer, your employer will provide you with a Certificate of Sponsorship (CoS). This document is used to support your Tier 2 visa application.
  3. Apply for visa: You can apply for a Tier 2 visa up to 3 months before the start date of your job. To apply, you must complete the online Tier 2 visa application form and pay the relevant fee. You will also need to provide supporting documentation, including your CoS, passport, and proof of qualifications.
  4. English language test: In order to be eligible for a Tier 2 visa, you must be able to prove your proficiency in English. You will need to take an approved English language test, such as the International English Language Testing System (IELTS), and include the results with your visa application.
  5. Biometric information: You will also need to provide biometric information as part of your visa application, including fingerprints and a digital photo.
  6. Interview: You may be required to attend an interview at a visa application center in India. During the interview, you will be asked questions about your job offer, qualifications, and personal circumstances.
  7. Application decision: After you have submitted your Tier 2 visa application, it will be reviewed by the UK Visas and Immigration (UKVI). You should receive a decision within 3 weeks of your biometric information being taken.
  8. Arrival in the UK: If your Tier 2 visa application is successful, you will be able to travel to the UK to start your job. You will need to show your visa and supporting documents to the immigration officer upon arrival.

Note: The Tier 2 visa is valid for a maximum of 5 years, and you can switch to a Tier 2 visa from within the UK if you are already in the UK on another type of visa. The Tier 2 visa application process can change, so it is important to check the latest information on the UK government’s website.
