Checklist of Documents Required for Applying to a University in Australia
Application Prep 🇦🇺
The Ultimate Checklist:
Australian Study Application.
Australian universities are strict about documentation. A single missing or blurry file can delay your Offer Letter by weeks. Use this checklist to get it right the first time.
📄 Format Matters
Do not send photos from your phone. All documents must be clear, color scans in PDF format. Each file should be named clearly (e.g., "John_Smith_Passport.pdf").
1. Identity & Profile
Passport (Front & Back)
Must be valid for at least 6 months. Scan the first page (photo) and the last page (address) in a single PDF.
English Score Card
Official IELTS / PTE / TOEFL score report. Valid for 2 years from the test date.
2. Academic History
Australian universities require a continuous history. Do not skip any years.
- 10th & 12th Marksheets
Official board certificates. - Bachelor's Marksheets (Individual Semesters)
Scan ALL semester marksheets (Sem 1 to 8). Do not just send the consolidated one. - Degree Certificate / Provisional
Proof that you have officially graduated. - Backlog Certificate (Important)
Even if you had zero backlogs, some universities ask for a "No Backlog Certificate." If you had failed attempts, this summary is mandatory.
3. Work Experience (If Applicable)
If you have a gap of more than 6 months after your studies, you must justify it.
Detailed CV / Resume
Must cover every month from your graduation date until today. No unexplained gaps.
Offer & Experience Letters
On company letterhead, clearly stating your role, start date, and end date.
Payslips / Bank Statement
Last 3 months of payslips or bank statements showing salary credit (Universities verify this for GTE/GS).
4. The "Deal Breaker" Document
The Statement of Purpose (SOP)
Under the new Genuine Student (GS) requirement, generic SOPs are rejected instantly. Your SOP must be unique, personal, and answer:
- Why this specific course? (Link it to your career).
- Why Australia and not your home country?
- What is the ROI (Return on Investment) you expect?
5. Supplementary Items
- ✅ Marriage Certificate: If your passport name differs from your academic documents.
- ✅ Letters of Recommendation (LOR): Mandatory for most Master's programs (1 Academic + 1 Professional preferred).
- ✅ Portfolio: Mandatory for Architecture, Design, or Fine Arts applicants.
