Comparing Past and Present: Using Modifying Expressions in IELTS Speaking Part 3

Question: How have shopping habits changed in your country over the past few decades? Answer: I think shopping habits have changed dramatically over the past few decades. In the past, people used to do most of their shopping at local markets or small shops in their neighborhood. But now, people tend to do a lot of their shopping at large supermarkets or online. The variety of products available is much greater now, and shopping has become a much more convenient experience.

Question: Do you think the way people socialize has changed over the years? Answer: Yes, I do. In the past, people would often socialize by going to each other's houses or meeting up in public places like parks or cafes. Nowadays, with the rise of social media and instant messaging apps, people tend to socialize more online. They might message each other or join virtual groups to chat and share information. I think this can be both positive and negative, as it can be easier to stay in touch with people but it can also lead to feelings of isolation.

Question: How have transportation options in your country changed over the years? Answer: There have been a lot of changes in transportation options in my country over the years. In the past, people mostly used public transportation like buses or trains to get around. But now, there are a lot more options available, including ride-sharing apps and electric bikes. These newer options can be much more convenient and environmentally friendly, but they can also be more expensive.

Question: Do you think the way people communicate with each other has changed in recent years? Answer: Absolutely. With the rise of smartphones and social media, people now have so many more ways to communicate with each other than they did in the past. They can text, call, video chat, or message each other on various apps. I think this has made communication a lot more convenient and instantaneous, but it can also be overwhelming at times.

Question: Have people's attitudes towards education changed over the years? Answer: I think there have been some changes in people's attitudes towards education over the years. In the past, people might have seen education as something that was only necessary for certain careers or professions. But now, I think there is more of a general recognition that education is important for personal growth and development, regardless of what field someone goes into. There is also more emphasis on continuing education throughout one's life, rather than just completing a certain level of schooling and stopping there.
