Official Guide: How to Send IELTS Scores to Universities

How to Send Your IELTS Scores

Universities do not accept scanned PDFs of your result. They need an "Official Electronic Score Report" sent directly from IDP. Here is how to do it.

📜

What is a TRF?

Test Report Form (TRF) is the official name for your score card. When a university asks for your IELTS, they are asking you to "Send your TRF" through the portal.

Option 1: The "Free 5" (Before Results)

✅ The Benefit

You can send scores to 5 universities for free if you select them at the time of booking your test (or within 24 hours of booking).

⚠️ The Risk

The scores are sent automatically once released. If you don't achieve your target score, the university will still receive it.

Option 2: Sending Scores Later (Additional TRF)

If you have already received your results and now want to apply to universities, follow these steps on the IDP website:

💻
Step 1

Log in to the IDP IELTS Candidate Portal.

🖱️
Step 2

Go to dashboard and click "Apply for Additional TRF".

🔍
Step 3

Search for the University/College name in the dropdown.

💳
Step 4

Pay the fee (approx ₹250-₹400 for Electronic Mode).

Electronic vs. Paper Delivery

  • Speed: Instant to 48 hours.
  • Cost: Lower fee.
  • Condition: The university must be subscribed to the IELTS electronic download service.

📬 Paper / Courier Delivery

  • Speed: 4-10 business days.
  • Cost: Higher (includes courier charges).
  • Usage: Only used if the university does not accept electronic scores.
