IELTS Speaking Part One Practice: Talking about Personal Preferences and School Experiences

Question 1: Do you like to read the newspaper? (why/why not?) Answer: Well, to be honest, I do enjoy reading the newspaper. I think it's a great way to stay up-to-date with the latest news and current affairs. Moreover, reading the newspaper helps me broaden my knowledge and learn new things about the world around us.

Question 2: Did you enjoy studying when you first started school? (why/why not?) Answer: Actually, I did enjoy studying when I first started school. I was very curious and eager to learn new things. I found the whole experience very exciting and engaging, especially since I was discovering new concepts and ideas every day.

Question 3: Would you like to do any further study? Answer: Well, I suppose it depends on what kind of further study you are referring to. If it's something that is related to my interests and career goals, then I would definitely consider it. However, if it's something that doesn't align with my interests or doesn't add value to my career, then I might not be too keen on it.

Question 4: Do you often go out at the weekends? Answer: These days, I don't go out too often on weekends. I usually prefer to spend my weekends relaxing at home or catching up on some reading. However, I do occasionally go out with friends and family for social events and gatherings.

Question 5: Have you always liked the same kind of music? Answer: No, actually, my music tastes have evolved over the years. When I was younger, I used to enjoy listening to pop and rock music. However, as I grew older, I started exploring different genres like jazz and blues, and now I appreciate a wide range of music.

Question 6: Tell me something about your secondary school? Answer: My secondary school was a very diverse and inclusive institution that placed a strong emphasis on academic excellence and extra-curricular activities. The school had state-of-the-art facilities and a team of highly qualified teachers who were very supportive and encouraging.

Question 7: Which subject did you find most difficult at school? Answer: I think the subject I found most difficult at school was Mathematics. I always struggled with complex formulas and equations, and it took me a while to grasp certain concepts. However, with the help of my teachers and some extra practice, I was able to improve my understanding of the subject.

Question 8: Do you ever need that subject now? Answer: Well, I suppose I do use some of the basic concepts of Mathematics in my everyday life, such as calculating percentages or keeping track of expenses. However, I don't need the more advanced concepts that I learned in school for my current job or personal life.

Question 9: What did you enjoy about being a school student? Answer: I think what I enjoyed the most about being a school student was the opportunity to learn new things and meet new people. School provided me with a safe and nurturing environment where I could explore my interests and develop my skills. I also made some lifelong friendships during my time in school.

Question 10: Are there any famous buildings in your hometown? Answer: Yes, there are several famous buildings in my hometown. One of the most notable is the historic Fort that was built during the colonial era. The Fort is a popular tourist attraction and serves as a reminder of our city's rich history and cultural heritage.

Question 11: In what type of building do most people in your hometown live? Answer: In my hometown, most people live in apartment buildings or multi-story complexes. This is because the city is quite densely populated and land is at a premium. However, there are also some areas
