CAS Shield Pre-CAS Interview Guide

Comprehensive Guide: How to Complete Your CAS Shield Pre-CAS Interview

Everything you need to know to pass your university credibility interview with confidence.

What is the Pre-CAS / Suitability Interview?

Before issuing your Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies (CAS), UK universities must ensure you are a genuine student who meets UK Visas and Immigration (UKVI) standards. The CAS Shield interview is typically an automated video interview where questions will appear on your screen, and your webcam will record your answers.

1. Mandatory Technical Setup

Before logging in, ensure your equipment is fully functional. You cannot pause or restart the interview once it begins.

  • Device: Use a laptop or desktop computer. Do not use a mobile phone, as incoming calls or notifications can interrupt the recording.
  • Internet Connection: Ensure you have a stable, high-speed Wi-Fi or wired connection.
  • Browser: Use the latest version of Google Chrome or Mozilla Firefox.
  • Hardware: Test your webcam and microphone. Ensure the camera lens is clean and the microphone picks up your voice clearly without static.

2. Setting Up Your Environment

Your background and surroundings are just as important as your answers.

  • Lighting: Sit facing a window or a bright light. Do not sit with a window behind you, or your face will appear as a dark silhouette.
  • Quiet Space: Choose a private room. Lock the door to prevent family members or pets from walking in.
  • Background: Keep it professional and uncluttered. A plain wall is best.
  • Documentation: Have your Original Passport and University Offer Letter on the desk next to you. You may be asked to hold your passport up to the camera.

3. How to Take the Interview on CAS Shield

  1. Log In: Access the CAS Shield portal using the specific link, username, and password provided by our team.
  2. Navigate to Interviews: On your dashboard, locate and click the "Interviews" tab.
  3. Read Instructions: Read the on-screen guidelines carefully. The system will usually prompt you to allow access to your camera and microphone. Click "Allow".
  4. Practice Question (If applicable): The system may offer a practice question to test your audio/video. Take advantage of this!
  5. Start the Interview: Once you click start, a question will appear on screen. You will typically be given 15 to 30 seconds to read and think, followed by 1 to 2 minutes to record your answer.
  6. Submit: Once all questions are answered, the system will automatically upload your video. Do not close your browser until you see a success or confirmation screen.

4. Common Interview Topics

While questions vary, you must be prepared to speak confidently and accurately about the following topics:

  • Your Intentions: Why did you choose the UK over your home country or other nations (like USA, Canada, Australia)?
  • Your University: Why did you choose this specific university? (Mention facilities, modules, location, or faculty—do not just say "it's highly ranked").
  • Your Course: What exactly will you study? Name specific modules (subjects) from your course structure.
  • Your Finances: Who is paying for your studies? If it's your parents, what do they do for a living? Know your exact tuition fees and living costs in GBP (£).
  • Future Career: What is your career goal after returning to your home country? Mention specific job titles and potential employers.

5. The Golden Rules: Dos and Don'ts

✅ DO THIS

  • Look directly at the camera lens, not at your own face on the screen.
  • Dress smartly and professionally (like a job interview).
  • Speak clearly, naturally, and at a moderate pace.
  • Use specific facts and figures regarding your course and finances.

❌ AVOID THIS

  • Never read from notes or a screen. Universities use eye-tracking software to detect reading. This results in instant rejection.
  • Do not give memorized, robotic answers.
  • Do not use earphones or headphones.
  • Do not have anyone else in the room with you.

Don't leave your CAS to chance.
