🕒 Key Update for 2026: The "Non-SDS" Reality

Effective late 2024, the SDS (Student Direct Stream) has been discontinued. All students now apply via the Regular (Non-SDS) Stream. In this stream, visa officers perform a holistic review, looking at the completeness and credibility of your entire application rather than just a single test score.

1. Official IRCC Position & Acceptance

While IRCC has not issued an official statement claiming that visa refusal rates are higher or lower for OSR users, the technical facts are clear:

  • Technical Acceptance: IRCC officially accepts IELTS results from approved agencies (IDP or British Council). Because OSR results in a valid Test Report Form (TRF), it is an acceptable document for study permit applications.
  • PR Restriction: OSR is currently NOT accepted for Express Entry or Permanent Residency (PR) applications.
