University of Queensland

Step 1: Genuine Student (GS) Verification

The University of Queensland (UQ) performs a rigorous assessment to ensure all applicants meet the Australian Government's Genuine Student criteria. This is a mandatory requirement before your COE is issued.

Common Assessment Topics:
  • Your academic progression and the relevance of the UQ program to your career.
  • Financial capacity to cover tuition and Brisbane's living costs.
  • The value of the course to your future in your home country.
  • Specific incentives to return home after completing your studies.

The GS Interview:

Selected applicants will be invited to a Mandatory Interview. You must be prepared to discuss your reasons for choosing UQ, your knowledge of the Brisbane campus, and how this investment aligns with your long-term professional goals.

Tip: Treat the interview like a professional meeting. Ensure your Statement of Purpose (SOP) matches the details you provide during the interview.

Step 2: Payment & Confirmation of Enrolment

After clearing the GS check, you will be cleared to pay your tuition deposit and Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC). UQ's preferred health provider is Allianz Care.

COE Checklist:
  • ✔ Signed Acceptance Agreement
  • ✔ Tuition Deposit Payment (via Western Union or Flywire)
  • ✔ OSHC Payment (or proof of existing cover)
